These drawings are part distinct from the Arènes de Nîmes project series. Their strength lies not only in the excellence of their materials—realized on 100% pure cotton Arches paper (300g) using black Indian ink and water washes—but also in the creativity and freedom of their compositions.

Here, inspired by the linear works of Cocteau, Matisse and Picasso, the drawing line is freed from the circular arena and instead develops around imagined and poetic figures invented by the artist, moving beyond the simple illustration of a bullfight.

The line, figures, and compositions all participate in something greater than mere narration or depiction of bullfighting. Everything seems to liberate itself from representation in the service of a pure aesthetic work of drawing.
